LOS ANGELES (KRON) — California-based American Apparel is drawing fire from some social media users after an image posted to the retailer’s Instagram appeared to show too much of a girl shopping for Back to School.
The photo, which has since been deleted from the Instagram account, shows a teenage girl in a skirt bent over and exposing her private parts.
The image was part of American Apparel’s annual Back to School advertising push. The image included the tag line, “Your First Assignment is to dress accordingly.”
Parents groups, educators, and others quickly took to social media with many calling the image pornographic, exploitative and propogating “rape culture.”
As of Friday morning, American Apparel hadn’t commented on the controversy.
