ANTIOCH (KRON) — An Antioch resident is in the hospital after an altercation with a police officer led to a shooting Monday morning.

Investigators say the officer was responding to a call of a rifle left in the street on Folsom Drive not far from Grant Elementary school.

When the officer got there he got into a confrontation with a man. As the officer tried to detain the resident, police say the man ran into an open garage. Eventually the officer opened fire hitting the man several times.

The man was alive when a helicopter took him to the hospital. His current condition is unknown. The officer was not hurt.

Antioch police and Contra Costa County officials will investigate the incident. So far it’s unclear why the man got into the argument with the officer in the first place.
