SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco woman whose 2-year-old niece was struck and killed by a car Friday night will make her first court appearance on Thursday after being arrested for child endangerment, a district attorney’s spokesman said today.

According to San Francisco Police Department investigators, the child’s aunt, Lorysha Gage, 25, was responsible for the girl’s safety at the time of the collision.

The incident was reported on Mission Street between 4th and 5th streets on Friday at around 10:37 p.m. Gage walked the girl into the street against the signal. The victim’s twin brother remained on the sidewalk.

“The pedestrian signal at this location was, and remains, in working order,” police said.

Gage left her niece, Mi’yana Gregory, in the middle of the street to return to the sidewalk to retrieve her brother.

“It was at this time, that the female child was struck and killed by the (still outstanding) vehicle travelling on Mission Street with the green light.

Gage was arrested Tuesday for felony child endangerment with an enhancement allegation for causing death. She has been booked at the San Francisco County Jail.

The driver of the vehicle remains at large.

Police said that the incident is still an open and active investigation.

The vehicle is described as a white mid-90s four-door sedan, either a Camry, Honda, or Lexus with a dark-colored mismatched front bumper and dark or black rims, according to the SFPD.

Anyone with information is asked to call SFPD. If the vehicle is seen on the road, witnesses should call 911. Anonymous tips can be made at 415-575-4444.

Gage is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the San Francisco Hall of Justice, according to San Francisco District Attorney’s Office spokesman Alex Bastian.
