SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — An aunt has pleaded not guilty to her alleged role in the hit-and-run accident that killed her 2-year-old niece in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood  last Friday night.

Lorysha Gage, 25, entered her plea to felony child endangerment during her arraignment in San Francisco Superior Court on Thursday.

Gage and her niece, Mi’Yana Gregory, were crossing Mission Street between 4th and 5th streets on Friday at around 10:37 p.m. Gage walked the girl into the street against the signal. The victim’s twin brother remained on the sidewalk.

Authorities say when Gage went back to get her nephew, her niece was fatally struck by a white car legally traveling through a green light.

Prosecutors are accusing Gage of endangering the toddler by leaving her alone in the middle of the busy intersection.  Gage has been charged with felony child endangerment with an enhancement allegation for causing death.

Police are still looking for the driver.

Gage is being held on $50,000 bail. Her attorney, Kevin Mitchell, told reporters that his client should not be facing any charges.

The vehicle is described as a white mid-90s four-door sedan, either a Camry, Honda, or Lexus with a dark-colored mismatched front bumper and dark or black rims, according to the SFPD.

Anyone with information is asked to call SFPD. If the vehicle is seen on the road, witnesses should call 911. Anonymous tips can be made at 415-575-4444.

Gage is due back in court on August 28.
