OAKLAND (KRON) — See something illegal going on in a BART station? Now there’s a new smartphone app that lets you notify police immediately.
The app is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese. The way it works is riders can choose from a dropdown menu of crimes or suspicious activities and send an immediate report to the BART Police dispatch center.
You can also discreetly take pictures of suspicious activities. The app will disable flash so no one will know you’re using the camera. Even if you don’t have any any cell service, the app will send a text that BART police say will get to them.
BARt will use the app to send out alerts to riders.
The app comes at the same time as police across the region are urging people to be better aware of their surroundings and not be too focused on their cell phones.
