HAYWARD (KRON) — Hayward police are examining surveillance tape from a BART in hopes of identifying a gunman who evaded authorities after an officer-involved shooting at the DMV office parking lot.

Pictures from our helicopter partners at SKY7HD/ABC7 News show police with shields and body armor surrounding several residences right behind the DMV. Canine officers are also helping in the search for the suspect.

A BART passenger reported seeing a man with a gun. Authorities then chased the man and three others to the DMV offices. The other three surrendered but the gunman, police say, pointed his weapon at them. Officers opened fire but the man got away.

An extensive search turned up nothing.

The Hayward DMV offices will re-open as usual on Thursday.
