RICHMOND (KRON) — Richmond police are now asking for the public’s help in finding the burglars who broke into a police officer’s home, stole several weapons, and poisoned his two dogs.
Authorities aren’t identifying the officer or his address to protect his safety.
Investigators say the officer noticed his one-year old black Labrador Retriever was ill so he took the dog to the veterinarian’s office. When he got home, he found his other dog, a police canine officer, was also sick. That’s when he noticed his home had been burglarized. The bad guys got away with three “sporting guns” and two handguns along with other personal items.
The black lab died the next day at the vet’s office. The canine officer is recovering.
Two Richmond Police unions are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the burglars. Other rewards are available for recovery of the stolen weapons, police say.
The Richmond Police Officer’s K-9 Association is also raising money to cover veterinarian bills which now total more than $10,000.
If you know anything about these crimes, contact Richmond Police.
