OAKLAND (KRON) — Chinese investors are behind a newly announced plan to develop the Oakland Waterfront near Jack London Square. Governor Jerry Brown unveiled the $1.5 billion Chinese investment during his current visit to the Far East.
China-based Zarson Holidings Group is behind the plan. Governor Brown says the development will create 10,000 jobs in Oakland. Artist and computer renderings of the project suggest the project will include high-rise residential units, 3,100 new apartments and condos in all located next to a Marina. The plan also includes 200,000 square feet of commercial and retail space.
The plans also include 30 acres of parks and open space areas with walkways for pedestrians and bicyclists.
It’s unclear when the Brooklyn Basin project will begin construction or be open for business.
