CORTE MADERA — A homeowner shot another man who followed him into his garage during a road rage incident in Corte Madera this morning, the Central Marin Police Authority chief said.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 5100 block of Paradise Drive at about noon today, police Chief Todd Cusimano said.
The gunshot victim, a 69-year-old Tiburon resident, was found with gunshot wounds to his leg and torso, Cusimano said. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
The chief said it appeared that the man had followed the homeowner into his garage in the middle of a road rage incident.
The homeowner, a 71-year-old man, drove into his garage and the other man tried to drive in behind him, but the homeowner closed the garage door onto the hood of the other man’s car, Cusimano said.
The two then got into an argument. The homeowner fired warning shots and eventually shot the other man, Cusimano said.
Cusimano said the homeowner is cooperating in the investigation and that police are trying to determine what happened during the argument and whether he shot the other man in self-defense.
“We think we know what started it, but we’re trying to figure out what ended it,” he said.
