FAIRFIELD (KRON) — The Head Football Coach at Vanden High School in Fairfield is facing serious charges for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the school’s athletics fundraising events.
42-year old Levon Haynes was arrested Tuesday after an investigation that included search warrants service at his home on Shasta Drive and another building on Shorey Way.
The school resource officer started the investigation after receiving reports of the missing funds.
Prosecutors say it appears Haynes had been embezzling money raised for athletic equipment at Vanden High for several momths.
Haynes was himself a Vanden High graduate. The school’s web site says he’s been the head football coach for five years and coached football and other sports starting in 1993.
