SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Celebrations filled the streets of San Francisco this weekend as the annual Pride festival is coinciding with the resumption of same-sex marriages in California.
Long lines of couples filed through San Francisco City Hall to get their licenses and celebrate their marriages to the approval of thousand of Pride participants.
Some marchers even dressed up as the five Supreme Court justices during the parade down Market Street to Civic Center plaza.
Crowds were 10 deep on the sidewalks.
The biggest applause went up for the two newlywed couples whose legal challenge of Proposition 8 made it possible for Californians to wed.
Kris Perry and Sandy Stier of Berkeley, and Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo of Burbank waved from convertibles as a group of people carried cartoon-style signs that read, “Prop. 8-Kapow!”
