SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — BART’s police chief is ordering a thorough review of the case of Yiener Perez, the so-called Naked Guy on BART who is accused of terrorizing patrons at the 16th and Mission station.

The review comes on the same day that Perez made his first court appearance after his arrest on seven charges, two of them felonies.

The arrest followed the surfacing of cell phone video that appears to show Perez with an erect penis chasing women and performing acrobatic stunts in the nude inside the station.

KRON 4′s J.R. Stone reports Perez’s friends who attended Tuesday’s hearing say their pal, who they know as “Jay”, was confused and thought he was in a play during the incident. Perez’s attorney says his client suffered from an “episode of a psychotic nature.”

Prosecutors say filing criminal charges only makes sense given what the video shows.

“I have a personal obligation to protect the safety of this community,” San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon says. “This is an individual today who would be an unsafe person. He would be not only unsafe to himself, he would be very unsafe to others. I have only limited tools and we’re using the tools we have.”

The judge issued three stay away orders Tuesday. Perez must stay away from two women seen in the videos. He also can’t go to the 16th and Mission station.

Neither is an issue right away. Perez remains in the San Francisco County Jail on $100,000 bond.
