SAN JOSE (KRON) — Southbound 101 remains closed near McKee Road after a CHP patrol car collides with a pedestrian on the freeway.
Investigators say a CHP patrol car was headed southbound on Highway 101 approaching Alum Rock Avenue early Saturday morning when a man in his 20′s darted on foot across the freeway.
The CHP officer tried to swerve out of the way but the man hit the right side of the patrol car near the right fender.
The officer driving then lost control of his vehicle and hit a a raised berm and ended up on the right shoulder.
The two officers inside the car then stopped to help the pedestrian who suffered serious injuries. That pedestrian is now in the hospital with major injuries.
Investigators are trying to figure out what prompted the man to run across the freeway.
