SALINAS (BCN) — Three recent Salinas homicide victims were identified today and police said they are close to solving some cases but need assistance in others.
Angel Donilo Juarez Najaro, 26, and Juan Mendoza Lopez, 22, both died after being found with multiple gunshot wounds near the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Sharon Drive at about 9 p.m., according to investigators.
Police are seeking a male suspect wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt that fled the scene of the shooting.
Sgt. Jeff Gibson said today that investigators have good leads in the case and are hoping to make an arrest soon.
Another fatal shooting across town last Friday killed Roger Farris, 39, a transient who had lived in Salinas for a long time, Gibson said.
Farris was killed while walking through an apartment complex parking lot at 2438 N. Main St. at about 10 p.m., police said.
The shooting is suspected to be gang-related but no witnesses have come forward and the investigation has stalled, Gibson said. Investigators have found some video footage of the possible suspect but are still looking for help identifying him.
Earlier that night, there was also a brutal murder during an attempted convenience store robbery that also left two people injured.
Police released video of the attempted robbery, which happened about 9:30 p.m. when two masked men tried to rob a Hot Stop convenience store at 11 Williams Road.
They demanded money, but when the store employee didn’t open the register fast enough they shot 62-year-old Sook Mi Oh, one of two friends visiting the employee, according to police.
They then shot the employee and the other friend and hit Oh multiple times with the pistol, before fleeing empty-handed, police said.
Oh was taken to a Bay Area hospital, where she died. The store employee was treated at a hospital and released and the third victim was treated at a hospital for critical injuries.
The first suspect is described as a male around 5 feet 6 inches tall with dark-colored pants, a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black mask covering his face.
The second suspect is described as a male around 6 feet tall with dark colored pants, a white hooded sweatshirt and a black mask covering his face.
Police Gibson said today that police are working on the case “non-stop.”
