SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — An elderly woman was shot in San Francisco’s Bayview District Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The shooting was reported at 4:13 p.m. near Third Street and Newcomb Avenue, according to officials.
Medical crews arrived to the scene and found the wounded 73-year-old victim.
Authorities said she had been shot in through a window and was grazed by a bullet on the forehead.
“After the incident, the victim was able to climb down a flights of stairs to report the incident and injury to a building manager that called the police,” officials said.
She was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that appear to be non-life threatening.
The victim, who lives alone in her second-level unit at the Providence Senior Housing, is one of 70 residents at the complex.
An employee at the Bayview branch public library, located at that intersection, said it appeared there was a carjacking that led to the shooting.
Police later said that a vehicle collision occurred at Thomas and Lane Streets. The vehicle involved fled the scene of the collision North on 3rd Street.
Moments later, that same vehicle was involved in a second collision at 3rd and Revere Streets. Occupants of the hit and run vehicle fled the scene on foot. Those occupants were detained by police.
