SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A Silicon Valley-based CEO risked getting seriously injured to rescue a baby salmon shark beached on the San Francisco coast on Sunday.

Surbhi Sarna and her husband spotted the distressed animal on the shore near the Sutro Baths. The couple tried to pull the shark back into the water but the waves were too strong.

“Eventually, I convinced myself to hold the shark by the tail and swim into the open ocean,” Sarna said.

“If I didn’t try it, he was likely a goner,” Sarna said.

Sarna’s brave attempt was recorded by onlookers. Video shows Sarna battling waves and wading waist-deep across the freezing waters while carrying the shark several yards offshore.

Throughout the rescue attempt, Sarna remained aware of the aggressive nature of the animal she was trying to save.

“He had many rows of teeth and they were very sharp.”
