ANTIOCH - The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three injured mariners after their recreational boat ran aground near Antioch this morning.

At about 11:15 a.m., the Coast Guard Station Rio Vista received a call from a person aboard a 40-foot recreational boat, grounded east of the Antioch Bridge.

The boater requested assistance for a person who had sustained a back injury and two other people who sustained arm injuries when the boat ran aground.

The Coast Guard launched a 29-foot boat and crew with an emergency medical technician from the Rio Vista Fire Department. The Contra Costa Fire Department also launched a rescue boat and crew to assist in the rescue operation.

Upon reaching the boaters in distress, the EMT and the Coast Guard crew safely transferred the person with the back injury to Antioch where EMS personnel were waiting.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District transported the two other mariners with arm injuries safely to shore.
