OAKLAND (BCN) — One person has died following a deputy-involved shooting early Sunday morning in Oakland, according to police.
Officers driving near 55th and Fairfax avenues around 4 a.m. spotted a vehicle wanted in connection with a July 12 home invasion robbery and pistol whipping in the 4700 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
Police officials said the driver of the wanted silver 2001 Volvo C70 failed to stop, inciting a police pursuit.
Officers briefly lost sight of the Volvo, then found it again near 105th and Edes avenues.
Police Officer Johnna Watson said the suspect fled on foot in that area and into nearby yards.
Officers established a perimeter in the area and found the suspect with the help of an Alameda County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.
A sheriff’s deputy then shot the suspect, who died at the scene, Watson said.
No officers or deputies were injured in the incident.
