NAPA (KRON) — For one survivor of the Napa earthquake, a red tagged house just means he’s moved outside.

Richard Dahlgren tells KRON 4′s J.R. Stone he’s been told the home he’s lived in for years is now unstable and unsafe to enter.

“I’m overwhelmed, seriously just overwhelmed,” Dahlgren says. “I just do what I can.”

For now what Dahlgren can do is live in a tent he’s erected on his front yard.

“The house is pretty old and it didn’t really have a foundation anyway so I guess as a consequence it suffered greatly,” he says.

Dahlgren says he needs to come up with $3,000 just to get a crane to pick up the house and then settle it down in a stable position. He’s hoping for a grant or help from family to get the work done.

He says living in a tent in the front yard is a challenge but says he feels lucky.

“I’m sure some people don’t even have that option. I’ve suffered severely but I’m sure other people have it worse.”
