HAYWARD (KRON) — A nine-year old girl is getting credit for saving her dad during a Thursday morning house fire in Hayward.

Witnesses say four members of the family managed to get out the front door when the fire broke out in the home on Park Arroyo Place. That’s west of Interstate 880 on a narrow roadway not far from Mt. Eden High School.

The little girl and her father were trapped upstairs until the little girl says she covered her mouth and led her daddy to a second story window.

“I saw the window opened and I told my dad to rip it or something,” the child tells KRON 4′s Mike Pelton. She says she never saw flames and so she wasn’t scared.

Firefighters say the narrow roadway made it hard to get fire trucks to the scene of the blaze.

No one was hurt.

Firefighters have extinguished the flames. The cause of the fire remains unclear but authorities say a lot of items within the home made it hard for firefighters to get where they needed to go once they entered.
