SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Doctors in Scotland got a shocking surprise after performing an emergency X-ray on a woman who had been suffering decade-long health issues.

The woman went to the hospital because she had trouble urinating, experienced dramatic weight loss, and complained about pain around her vagina.

After examining the X-ray, doctors at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary determined that the woman suffered from vesicovaginal fistula and obstructive uropathy, a condition that causes urine to discharge into the vagina and blockage in the kidneys, according to a report in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

During surgery, doctors removed a 5-inch sex toy.

According to the report, the woman said she remembers using the toy during a drunken spell with her partner from 10 years ago.

Apparently, the 38-year-old woman had forgotten to remove it.

The report said that the toy caused “life-threatening” damage.

Researchers said the case is “extremely rare but potentially life-threatening.” The study appeared in the June edition of the journal.

According to a report by STV News, the journal cited 44 cases involving similar objects – including plastic aerosol caps believed to have been inserted as contraception. The longest recorded retention was 35 years.
