JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (KRON) — A viral video captures a young boy’s terrifying fall after his father kicked him off of a Florida skate ramp.

The father, who has been reportedly identified as Marcus Crossland, was coaching his 6-year-old son to ride a steep wooden half pipe nicknamed Big Brown. The two were standing on the platform for several seconds when suddenly Crossland kicks his child off the edge then turns away.

The boy, considered a skateboarding prodigy, can be heard screaming in pain as he falls to the bottom of the ramp.

The skate park’s operator, Martin Ramos, explained that the boy’s father “was just caught up in the moment.”

“Unfortunately parents get so enthusiastic about their kids and their abilities in skateboarding, or baseball, or football or whatever and sometimes they take it a little too far,” said Ramos.

Ramos said the boy and his father often skate together at the park and he has never seen any behavior similar to that seen in the video before.

Ryan Stephens, 13, said his friend shot the video but Stephens posted it on his Instagram. He said he confronted Crossland after he saw the video to ask him why he pushed his son.

“He said ‘because he needs to learn’. I was like ‘pushing him down is not teaching him how to drop in’. And then he said ‘do you think you can raise him better than me?’ and I said yes,” Stephens told First Coast News.

Fortunately, the kid, who was wearing protective gear, did not suffer injury and was back on his skateboard after the fall.
