INDIANAPOLIS (KRON) — Two Indiana women may face criminal charges after they survived being run over by a freight train.
In video released by the railroad, the women can be seen trying to cross the Shuffle Creek Trestle, a 500-foot-long, 80-foot-tall bridge over Lake Lemon in rural Indiana.
The engineer on board the train sees the women on the tracks, blows his horn, and tries to stop but cannot in time.
The women faced a choice between staying on the tracks or jumping off the tall bridge and they lay down.
The train passed over them. When it finally came to a stop, a witness says he saw the women stand up and run away. When he asked them if they were okay, one claimed to have stubbed her toe. The witness says the women then escaped in a car.
The engineer thought he had killed the women and called that report in to authorities. Police later caught up with the pair and they may be charged with trespassing and other crimes.
