NAPA (KRON) — A 37-year old man who was shot Monday during a confrontation with a Napa Police officer remains in critical condition Tuesday.

Napa police say members of the Napa Special Investigations Bureau were watching a 1991 Honda in a parking lot near Gasser Drive in Napa Monday evening. Authorities say the agents had information that Pablo Ramirez was a wanted felon who might be in possession of methamphetamines.

Investigators say four people were inside the car when officers approached. Ramirez was in the front passenger’s seat, police say. A struggle ensued and investigators say a Napa officer serving as part of the special investigations team shot Ramirez once in the right upper chest.

The suspect was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital. He remains in custody for the felony warrant and drug possession. The driver of the car was arrested on a traffic warrant. The other two people in the vehicle were questioned and then released, investigators say.

The officer who shot Ramirez remains on paid administrative leave. The Napa County Major Crimes Task Force, which includes members of the D.A.’s officer, Napa police, and the Napa County Sheriff’s department is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
